How long do your tutoring sessions last?
In general, each session lasts one hour, and I recommend meeting at least twice each week to ensure habits and information are established and absorbed. However, for very young students or others with limited attention spans, I might suggest shorter, more frequent sessions. For older teenagers with busy schedules needing assistance with a particularly difficult class or writing assignment, I may suggest 90 minute sessions only once every week or two.
I provide highly individualized, effective tutoring, tailored to your student's needs!
How are you paid for your teaching services?
Triumphant Tutoring & Nannying, LLC accepts cash, checks, Venmo, and Zelle weekly, at the last session of each week.
What kind of commitment is there when working with Triumphant Tutoring?
No formal commitment is required to work with Triumphant Tutoring. I expect mutual respect for each others' busy schedules and other relationships. To this end, I will provide as much notice as possible if a cancellation is necessary and expect the same of my clients.
I understand that children can appear well at bedtime but then are sick the morning of a tutoring session; in this case, I expect and appreciate being texted by 9:00 a.m. Otherwise, you will be charged for the full session. Other cancellations require at least 24 hours notice to avoid being charged for the missed session.
Where do you hold your tutoring sessions?
Usually, I hold tutoring sessions in your home. I find that this provides parents more comfort with their schedules and because they remain present while their child is “alone” with a new adult. The student feels comfortable at home, requiring little time to “get down to
business” once I’ve arrived. All that is needed is a quiet room with a table and two chairs and no distractions like siblings or playful pets. I can help you adapt a temporary tutoring area during our consultation. If you prefer, I can work with the student at the library, in my
home, or another mutually agreed upon location.
My high school student is an excellent writer! The only thing is her grammar. She wants to write professionally and knows that it would be so much easier if grammar came naturally to her. Can you help?
Absolutely! I grew up in Bergen County, NJ, one of the best public school systems in the country at that time. Perfect grammar was thoroughly taught, explained, and expected year after year. As adults, being "the company's grammar police" is second nature for my sisters and me! I can teach the easy tricks we learned to automatically apply correct grammar rules.
Are you really capable of tutoring math concepts and skills?
Why only up through Pre-algebra?
While I did earn A’s in Algebra I and II, Advanced Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus, and Applied Statistics (several decades ago), I feel comfortable tutoring only up through Pre-algebra at this time. Tutoring higher levels of math would require substantial investment of my time, which I am willing to consider under the right circumstances.
Of what kinds of concerns might you need to apprise me?
The most common “concerns” are generally about making tutoring sessions more effective. For some students I will suggest that they have shorter, more frequent sessions; for others, I might suggest longer sessions; for others, perhaps Saturday morning sessions would be welcomed and more effective than Friday afternoon sessions. For most kids I’ve suggested no sugary snacks before I arrive or earlier bedtimes so that their brains are able to function better. Of course, all concerns are expressed confidentially and respectfully.
Do you have a specific teaching qualification?
I do not have specific teaching qualifications per se. While some may see this as a detriment, I prefer to view it as a benefit to you for several reasons. For one, I cannot charge as much as Tutors with “all the letters” after their names. Also, you can be sure I tutor because I love to tutor, not by default. Finally, I have not been required to work in a more institutionalized setting that often requires teaching in a more standardized, one-size-fits-all method.
That being said, I did complete Basic School-Age Care Training developed by NC Department of Health and Human Services when I was a Substitute Teacher for Iredell-Statesville Schools. I also completed Behavior Technician Training while employed by Autism Learning Partners. Of course, I’m certified by the Red Cross in CPR and First Aid as well. I graduated Magna cum Laude with my Bachelor’s in Psychology, earning A's in Developmental Psychology and Psychology of Learning among many other related courses.
